The European Contemporary Improvisers Orchestra (ECIO) brings together some of the finest musicians working in the field of free improvisation today and this, their debut concert, seeks to emphasize not only previous relationships in other situations but also to juxtapose these with entirely new ones within the context of the larger ensemble. The music is entirely improvised with only the structure of the concert fixed beforehand; giving the musicians maximum room for improvisational creativity.
Tonight’s concert is divided into two parts with an interval of approximately half an hour. The first half will be in four parts: Ensemble, Trio, Quartet and Trio. Each of the smaller groups have never played in that permutation before tonight ,and so provide a unique opportunity to explore the inner dynamics found within the group. After the interval the entire second half is dedicated to the whole ensemble when they will be joined by acclaimed Butoh dancer Aki Suzuki.
